Pastors

Pastor Smit has been the Senior Pastor of SPC since 2016. Previously serving as a Pastor with Midway Presbyterian (Powder Springs, GA) for 8 years. Joel is a Visiting Lecture of Pastoral Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary (Atlanta) and is on the board of Emmanuel Theological Seminary (Kenya).

Pastor Smit graduated from Simpson University (Redding, CA) in 2002 with a BA in Biblical Studies. He attended Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in 2008. He is a Doctorate of Ministry (D.Min.)  candidate at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.

He and his wife Stefanie originate from California and they have four children. They love the parks, restaurants, and the active community of Smyrna, Georgia. Joel loves everything sports-related and is glad to have the Atlanta Braves nearby. Go Braves!

Prior to coming to SPC, he served as the Pastoral Intern of Discipleship at First Presbyterian Church (Columbia, SC). Pastor Myers began ministry as an evangelist and chaplain on university campuses in Georgia and South Carolina. Danny is a graduate of Georgia Southern University (Statesboro, GA) with a Bachelor of Science in Education (2009). He attended Erskine Theological Seminary (Columbia, SC) and earned his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) in 2019. He and his wife, Meredith, grew up in metro-Atlanta (and never crossed paths until college!) and have three "sons of thunder." They are proud to call Smyrna home. Danny is passionate about the Braves, coffee, and discipleship.

Leandro grew up in Brazil and had lived there the entirety of his life before he and his wife, Gabriella, came to the United States at the end of 2019. They came for her to study English, as well as the possibility of Leandro being able to pursue theological studies. He graduated with his Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) at Reformed Theological Seminary (Atlanta) in 2025 and was ordained as Assistant Pastor at SPC in 2026 working primarily with Youth & Families. He has a Bachelor degree in Marketing, and a Post-graduate degree in Philosophy. We are blessed to have Leandro, his passion, and his South American flair here at Smyrna Presbyterian Church.

Bobby Valcin was born in Brooklyn, NY but spent most of his life in South Florida. In 2008, he accepted  Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior and became an active member of a local church in Lake Worth, FL. He eventually began theological training under the church leadership of a Reformed Baptist Church where he was given the opportunity to preach on several occasions. In 2021, he and his wife, Daphne, moved to Georgia. Bobby began classes at the Reformed Theological Seminary this summer and officially joined Smyrna Presbyterian Church in June 2022. Bobby enjoys playing basketball, reading, and actively serving in the life of the church.
