Radney Simpson
ELDER
Radney was born in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Perry, GA. A high school classmate invited Radney to attend the United Methodist Church Youth group activities, where Christ’s grace was shared. After graduating high school, Radney began his college education at Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA. There, God’s providence placed his future wife, Catherine, into his life for a brief one time car ride to her part time job at TG&Y. In 1987, Radney began his career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Atlanta. God’s providence again provided an opportunity for Radney & Catherine to share another ride together on the Marta rail in downtown Atlanta. After 4 years of dating, Radney & Catherine married in 1991, and are now blessed with two daughters, Leila and Dawn. During May 2020, Radney & Catherine began worshiping at SPC and subsequently joined in December of the same year. Radney joined Catherine in retirement in January 2023. Radney enjoys traveling near and far with Catherine. He also enjoys worshiping and having fellowship with his church family whenever the doors are open at SPC.

JIM Stratton
ELDER
Jim was born in Heidelberg, Germany to American parents. After first grade he moved to New Mexico, Hawaii, central California and later the Washington DC area. He graduated from University of Maryland in 1973 and went to work for Delta Air Lines in 1974. There he learned computer programming and enjoyed a 31-year career as a software developer. Upon leaving Delta in 2005, he became a data analyst and software developer for SunTrust Bank where he worked in Risk Management and Treasury until retirement at the end of 2015. He married Dolly in 1984 and together they have two grown sons (Daniel and David). They enjoy cycling, music, and traveling together. After decades in the Methodist Church, Jim became troubled by what he decided was a drift away from scriptural Christianity and an enthusiastic charge to mirror the culture at large. With the onset of COVID and his church showing no interest in in-person worship, Jim discovered Smyrna Presbyterian Church in May 2020. He considers this to be an unmistakable answer to prayer and one of his life's greatest blessings. Jim is fulfilling his three year term as current Elder, and is remaining on for another term pending congregational approval.
